Abstract print wire actuator for use in a dot matrix printer has an armature, connected to the print wire, driven in a forward direction by energizing an electromagnet and driven in the reverse direction to its initial position by a permanent magnet. Both the electromagnet and the permanent magnet are in the shape of hollow cylinders and are aligned with respect to one another. The armature is inserted in the center of the two aligned magnets so that a portion of the armature is adjacent to the permanent magnet and another portion of the armature is adjacent to the electromagnet. Stop means are also inserted into the center portions of the magnets to control the movement of the armature. BC9-78-008
