ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A spun yard composed of staple fibers has the average number of fibers in cross section, N, and the rate of yarn evenness, CV, such that Image . The yarn facilitates manufacture of woven and knitted goods having excellent uniformity of surface, high gauge, bulkiness, softness and warm hand feel. The yarn can be manufactured from multi-filament yarn fed through a feed roller, past a cutter moving at right angles to the yarn, and through a delivery roller rotating at about the same speed as the feed roller.
