A method of stabilising soil and aggregate for structural purposes including the step of mixing with water (a) a soil aggregate base material; (b) a stabilisation composition comprising: (i) an alkali metal silicate or other suitable gel precursor, and (ii) optionally a cation; and (c) a minimum amount of 1 % of cement based on the weight of the resulting mixture, whereby sufficient water is added to the resulting mixture to hydrate the cement and thereby provide a stabilised soil aggregate matrix suitable for use in a structure. There is also provided a method of forming a structure which includes the steps of (i) sampling a soil aggregate base material to carry out one or more Atterberg tests as well as UCS or CBR; (ii) determining target amounts of cement from the results of such tests; and (iii) substituting a percentage of the target amounts of cement with a stabilisation composition comprising: (a) an alkali metal silicate or other suitable gel precursor; and (b) a cation, as well as a stabilisation composition for use in the methods described above.
Procédé de stabilisation de terre et d'agrégats à des fins de construction de structures, consistant à mélanger avec de l'eau: (a) un matériau de base contenant d'agrégats de terre; (b) une composition stabilisante comprenant (i) un silicate de métal alcalin ou autre précurseur de gel approprié, et éventuellement (ii) un cation; et (c) une proportion de 1 % au minimum de ciment, basée sur le poids du mélange obtenu, une quantité suffisante d'eau étant ajoutée au mélange obtenu pour hydrater le ciment et produire ainsi une matrice d'agrégats de terre stabilisés apte à être utilisée dans une structure. L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé de formation d'une structure, consistant à: (i) échantillonner une matériau de base contenant d'agrégats de terre afin d'effectuer au moins un test d'Atterberg ainsi que le contrôle de la portance d'une couche de sol au moyen de l'indice C.B.R et de la résistance à la compression unidimensionnelle (UCS); (ii) déterminer des quantités cibles de ciment en fonction des résultats de ces tests; et (iii) substituer un pourcentage des quantités cibles de ciment à une composition stabilisante comprenant (a) un silicate de métal alcalin ou autre précurseur de gel approprié; et (b) un cation. L'invention porte par ailleurs sur une composition stabilisante destinée à être utilisée dans les procédés précités.
