The present invention provides a method of stabilizing solutions of 3- isothiazolone compound(s) selected from the group consisting of 5-chloro-2- methyl-3-isothiazolone, 2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, and mixtures thereof in water free of nitrate or nitrite by the use of extremely low levels of copper ion, andcompositions comprising water solutions of 3-isothiazolone compound(s) selected from the group consisting of 5-chloro-2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, 2- methyl-3-isothiazolone, and mixtures thereof, and extremely low levels copper ion.
