PATENT CL-168 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A carbohydrate, such as mannitol or Dextran-70, is added during the purification of a protein, such as Factor VIII:C. The carbohydrate stabilizes the protein, even when the protein is 60-99% pure. The carbohydrate is added across various purification steps and is present in the final container so as to stabilize the protein during freeze-drying and reconstitution.
