ABSTRACT A stabilizer composition for 1,1,1-trichloro- ethane containing (1) (a) 3.5 volume percent of 3-methyl- -1-butyn-3-ol, or (b) 3.5-6 volume percent of a mixture of this and tertiary amyl alcohol, where at least 1.75 percent is the butynol, (2) 0.5-2 volume percent of nitromethane (NM) or nitromethane and nitroethane (NE), the NM or NM + NE being present in at least 0.75 per- cent when (la) is 3.5 volume percent and 1.0 percent when (lb) is 3.5 volume percent, and, (3) 0.5-1 volume percent of an alkylene oxide having 4-6 carbon atoms, including cyclohexene oxide. A preferred composition consists of 2 volume percent each of 3-methyl-1-butyn--ol and tertiary amyl alcohol, 1.0 volume percent of nitromethane and 0.75 volume percent butylene oxide. The composition is especially desirable for stabilizing 1,1,1-trichloroethane in the presence of aluminum, and is especially adapted for vapor degreas- ing.
