A method and apparatus are provided for stabilizing a distributed feedback semiconductor laser (12). The method includes the steps of comparing an optical output of a first oscillating mode of the semiconductor laser (12) at a first polarization angle with an optical output of a second oscillating mode of the semiconductor laser at a second polarization angle orthogonal to the first polarization angle. A first feedback signal is provided to a cavity temperature controller of the semiconductor laser in response to detected differences of the compared first and second oscillating modes. The method further includes the step of comparing an output of the reference laser (40) with an output of the semiconductor laser (12) and providing a difference signal as a second feedback signal to the temperature controller of the semiconductor laser in response to detected differences between the reference laser (40) and semiconductor laser (12).
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé et à un appareil permettant de stabiliser un laser à semi-conducteurs (12) à rétroaction répartie. Ledit procédé consiste à comparer une sortie optique d'un premier mode oscillant d'un laser à semi-conducteurs (12), pour un premier angle de polarisation, à une sortie optique d'un second mode oscillant du laser à semi-conducteurs, pour un second angle de polarisation perpendiculaire au premier angle de polarisation. Un premier signal de rétroaction est délivré à un organe de régulation de la température de la cavité du laser à semi-conducteurs en réponse à des différences détectées des premier et second modes oscillants comparés. Ledit procédé consiste en outre à comparer une sortie du laser de référence (40) à une sortie du laser à semi-conducteurs et à délivrer un signal de différence en tant que second signal de rétroaction à l'organe de régulation de la température du laser à semi-conducteurs en réponse aux différences détectées entre le laser de référence (40) et le laser à semi-conducteurs (12).
