ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Stable alkaline solutions ready for injection are provided containing an alkali metal canrenoate or a mixture of a diuretic alkali metal canrenoate and a second diuretic, for example, 5-(4-chloro-5-sulphamoyl-2-thenylaminophenyl)-tetra- zole or 4-chloro-N-(2-furylmethyl)-5-sulphamoylanthranilic acid, water and a physiologically compatible alkaline buffer; the buffer has a low buffer capacity and is effective to main- tain a pH range of 10.2 - 11.2, the preferred alkali metal salt is the potassium salt; the solutions can be stored for at least 3 years and can be administered intravenously in un- diluted form.
