ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dilute solution of an acrylamide polymer having a molecular weight greater than 1,000,000 which is stable against viscosity loss reduction due to aging which comprises a major portion of water, from 0.01 - 3% by weight of an acrylamide polymer, and from 0.1 - 5% by weight of a water-soluble mono- hydric alcohol which contains from 1 - 3 carbon atoms. These solutions find use as flocculants, thickening aids, retention agents in paper making, emulsion breakers, drift control agents, and the like.
