ABSTRACT A liquid composition is provided for coating seeds, which includes an active ingredient for protecting a seed, a coloring agent to indicate that the seed has been coated and a nonphytotoxic water-borne binding agent. To counteract instability previously found to exist in similar liquid seed coatings, the composition also includes a polyol selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, hexylene glycol, propylene glycol, diethylene glycol, glycerol, methyl cellosolve, and butyl cellosolve, the polyol comprising between about 5 and about 48 percent by weight of the composition.
