Abstract of the Disclosure In the case of an apparatus for stacking and unstacking receptacles able to be superposed in layers, and more particularly for palettizing and depalettizing receptacles able to be arranged in layers, such as bottle crates and the like, comprising a gripper arrangement which is located over a stacking facility and is able to be reciprocated through a distance at least equal to thewidth of the layer, in order to provide a simple construction which is nevertheless is capable of a high handling rate the gripper arrangement comprises two gripper sets adapted to operate with a phase shift, of which, on each change over of sides of the gripper arrangement, one respective set extends over a central receptacle receiving device, which is flanked by two outer receptacle receiving devices, of which one respective one has the other gripper set extending over it.
