A heat-treated cladding (44) on the working surfaces of continuous caster rolls (40) reduces sensitization zones. The thermal treatment applied conditions the working surface (44) of the roll substantially uniformly at all positions around the perimeter of the roll (40), thereby disolving carbide formations into an austenite solution and removing carbide formations and chromium depletion sites or sensitized zones associated with the reheat regions occurring during the welding process. The heat treatment process is accomplished without thermally affecting or altering the properties and dimensions of the base roll material, either at a substantial depth beneath the body working surface or on or beneath the roll journal surfaces.
Un placage par traitement à chaud (44) effectué au niveau des surfaces de travail de roulettes continues (40) réduit les zones de sensibilisation. Le traitement thermique appliqué conditionne la surface de travail (44) de la roulette de manière sensiblement uniforme sur l'ensemble du pourtour de ladite roulette (40), ce qui permet la dissolution des formations de carbure dans une solution d'austénite et l'élimination des formations de carbure et des sites de déplétion en chrome ou des zones sensibilisées associées aux régions de réchauffement se développant au cours du processus de soudage. On effectue le traitement thermique sans affecter thermiquement ou modifier les propriétés et les dimensions de la matière de base de la roulette, que ce soit à une profondeur importante au-dessous de la surface de travail du corps de roulette ou bien sur les surfaces ou au-dessous des surfaces des tourillons des roulettes.
