Apparatus such as a stair lift comprises first and second assemblies connecting together for relative movement about an axis of rotation (A). Means for causing relative movement between the assemblies and control means for controlling the movement means are provided in order to maintain the first assembly horizontal. To achieve this, the first assembly is provided with an inclinometer comprising an inertial mass (44) attached to a stiff arm (40) provided with a strain gauge (42), wherein the centre of mass of the inertial mass is substantially located at the axis of rotation of the first assembly relative to the second assembly in order to improve the accuracy and speed of response of the control system. Further improvements can be achieved by adding a pendulum in order to determine substantially static inclinations.

La présente invention a trait à un appareil pour monter les escaliers comprenant un premier et un second ensembles raccordés l'un à l'autre pour permettre un mouvement relatif autour d'un axe de rotation (A).
