ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A staple for use in attaching electric cable. The staple is formed from a piece of wire bent into a U-shape to provide two legs and a cross-bar. Integral stop means are provided on each leg to limit penetration of the leg into a support. In one embodiment, the stop means comprises a flattened loop formed by bending each leg. In another embodiment, the stop means comprises a flange formed in each leg by upsetting. The invention is also directed toward a method of making the staple with the flanges.
