A staple for the suture of the sternum having a central body (1) with right and left threaded ends ( 2, 2~) in which two teeth (3, 3~) are screwed able to be introduced into suitable holes made astride a median sternotomy performed on a patient. Rotating the central body (1) draws the teeth (3, 3~) together or apart, thus tightening the two halves of the sternum with appropriate tension. The staple is suitable to be tightened by means of an apparatus provided with friction, to give the correct tightening tension. Also described are a method for the suture of the sternum and punch cutter forceps suitable to be used in such operation.

L'invention concerne une agrafe destinée à la suture du sternum. Cette agrafe comprend un corps central comprenant une extrémité droite et une extrémité gauche filetées dans lesquelles sont vissées deux dents pouvant être introduites dans des orifices adéquats formés de chaque côté d'une sternotomie médiane pratiquée sur un patient. La rotation du corps central provoque le rapprochement ou l'éloignement des dents et permet ainsi de serrer les deux moitiés du sternum avec la tension appropriée. Cette agrafe peut être serrée au moyen d'un dispositif produisant un frottement, permettant d'appliquer la tension de serrage adéquate. L'invention concerne également un procédé de suture du sternum, et une pince perforante convenant pour une telle opération.
