ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A starch product suitable for use in drilling muds, a method for producing the same, a drilling mud containing said product and a method for drilling a shaft. The starch product is obtained by drying the debris recovered from peeling potatoes. The production is preferably performed by washing the potatoes and peel- ing them, yielding rasped potatoes and peel debris. A great part of the water contained in said peel debris is then removed in a decanter and the remainder is subsequently dried, yielding the starch product which includes proteins, fats, peel fragments, cellulose and fibrous material from the debris starting material. The novel process consumes less energy than known processes which produce a starch product from whole potatoes.
