ABSTRACT A combined shingle starter and vent for use along the eaves of buildings subject to rain, snow and ice storms and for pre- venting freeze back is formed of one piece of thin, bendable, sheet metal, about ten feet long, bent to form a relatively wide, inclined starter panel fitting under the lower courses of the shingles, a horizontal strut panel extending back to the fascia and containing a full length row of transverse, closely spaced parallel ventilation louvers and a downward depending attachment panel for nailing to the fascia board to prevent an unsightly, rippling of the thin metal. There is an inturned terminal flange on the attachment panel which flattens during nailing to retain a flat planar appearance of the panels of the device. An integral drip bead is formed along the front of the horizontal strut panel.
