A circuit for starting and operating a discharge lamp, such as a compact fluorescent lamp, at high frequency from an 60 Hz AC supply. The circuit includes a power supply for generating a DC voltage coupled to a pair of AC input terminals. A DC/AC converter includes an oscillator having a pair of semiconductor switches coupled in parallel with the DC power supply. An oscillator starting circuit is coupled to one of the semiconductor switches and includes a series circuit comprising a resistor, capacitor and threshold element. The input of the oscillator starting circuit is coupled to one of the AC input terminals so as to prevent a momentary flicker in the lamp after the AC supply is removed and the lamp has extinguished. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the oscillator includes fusible circuit elements which render the oscillator inoperable upon failure of the lamp due to depletion of emissive material on at least one of the lamp electrodes.
L'invention est un circuit d'amorçage et d'alimentation haute fréquence pour lampe à décharge, telle qu'une lampe fluorescente compacte, utilisant une source de courant alternatif 60 Hz. Ce circuit comporte un bloc d'alimentation produisant une tension continue couplé à une paire de bornes d'entrée de courant alternatif. Il contient également un convertisseur continu-alternatif comportant un oscillateur ayant une paire de commutateurs à semi-conducteur couplés en parallèle avec le bloc d'alimentation en courant continu. Un circuit d'amorçage de l'oscillateur est couplé à l'un des commutateurs à semi-conducteur et contient un circuit série constitué d'une résistance, d'un condensateur et d'un élément de seuillage. L'entrée du circuit d'amorçage de l'oscillateur est couplée à l'une des bornes d'entrée du courant alternatif pour empêcher tout papillotement momentané de la lampe après la déconnexion de la source à courant alternatif et l'extinction de la lampe. Dans l'une des concrétisations de l'invention, l'oscillateur comprend des éléments fusibles qui le rendent inopérant en cas de défaillance de la lampe par suite de raréfaction de la substance émissive sur l'une au moins des électrodes de la lampe.
