ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes a control circuit for a self-starting electric motor with at least one stator winding having an electronic servo-element which is applied in series therewith to a DC operating voltage. The control circuit acts as a switch and is controlled by control impulses supplied to one input of a gate circuit whereby the gate circuit during normal operation is constantly turned on in response to a "normal-running"-signal. The gate circuit during the starting period and when the rotor is blocked is alternately supplied with relatively short starting signals as opening signals and longer stopping signals as blocking signals from an impulse generator. The impulse generator is independent of the "normal-running"-signal generator. The blocking signals during normal operation are overridden by the "normal- running"-signal.
