ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for use in condensing steam from the turbine exhaust of a power plant or the like. Steam from the turbine engine exhaust is received and divided into first and second branches. A steam condenser is provided having an inlet to receive the steam from the first branch. A hot well receives condensed steam. The hot well has an outlet and the condensate from the outlet is returned to the power cycle. A cooling tower, having a wet section and a dry section, is provided with the wet section including fill over which ambient air is caused to pass. An inlet is also provided and adapted for distributing a cooling medium over the fill. An outlet, including a water basin, is further provided to collect the medium beneath the fill. The inlet and outlet of the wet tower section are connected with tubes within the steam condenser for circulating the medium through the tubes in heat exchange relation with the steam. The dry section includes a tube bundle over which ambient air is caused to pass. An inlet is provided to the bundle for receiving steam from the second branch. The bundle also has an outlet. Condensate from the bundle is introduced into the condenser.
