Abstract A cooking apparatus capable of barbecuing and steaming food which includes a steam generating chamber and a heat source to both generate steam and brown the cooked food. In a preferred manner, the steam generating chamber is con- nected to a water supply source and a lid on the chamber is of the floating type. The cooking apparatus lends itself to the usual heat sources and can be accommodated in a modular cooking unit.
