ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Our steam distributing apparatus for steam pressing of wood particle mats comprises an upper press plate, a lower press plate, a plurality of steam distribution ducts in each press plate as well as a plurality of steam outlet holes connecting each steam distribution duct to the outer surface of the press plate adjacent the wood particle mat to be pressed, where advantageously the steam outlet holes have a diameter from one to several millimeters and are distributed uniformly over the press plate outer surface in a grid having a grid size with from one to several centimeters between adjacent steam outlet holes. Between the steam output holes of each of the press plates and the wood particle mat a porous screen comprising a wire mesh is placed, whose mesh size is smaller then the diameter of the steam output holes by a factor of at least 0.50. The porous screen has a peripheral edge region engageable with the wood particle mat in the pressing process, whose mesh is felled with rubber and/or plastic and/or metal. The porous screen may be constructed from corrosion resistant steel wires as a woven wire net or a woven web with warp wires perpendicular to weft wires.
