This invention relates to a steerable drill bit arrangement, in particular for the use in drilling boreholes for oil and gas extraction. According to the invention there is provided a steerable drill bit arrangement comprising a drill bit (12), a steering component (16) and a stabiliser (14), the steering component being adapted to provide a steering force which in use can drive the drill bit along a non-linear path, the stabiliser being located between the drill bit and the steering component and in use providing a fulcrum for the steering force provided by the steering component, the position of the fulcrum provided by the stabiliser being adjustable relative to the drill bit and the steering component. In use, the position of the fulcrum can be adjusted to vary the maximum curvature of the borehole and to suit the rock type(s) being drilled.

L'invention concerne un ensemble trépan de forage orientable destiné notamment au forage de trous pour l'extraction de pétrole et de gaz. Selon l'invention, l'ensemble trépan de forage orientable comprend un train de sondage, un élément de guidage et un stabilisateur, l'élément de guidage étant conçu pour fournir une force de guidage qui, lors de l'utilisation, peut actionner le trépan de forage le long d'un trajet non linéaire. Le stabilisateur est disposé entre le trépan de forage et l'élément de guidage et fournit, lors de son utilisation, un point d'appui à la force de guidage exercée par l'élément de guidage, la position du point d'appui fournie par le stabilisateur pouvant être réglée par rapport au trépan de forage et à l'élément de guidage.
