The object of this invention is the use of a steerable-beam antenna such as a phased array in a mobile radio (telephone or other) so as to be able to point the main beam of the mobile antenna toward another distant antenna. This arrangement offers improved antenna gain and reduces the effects of multipath propagation. With mobile telephones, increasing the gain of the mobile antenna would result in an improved level of co-channel interference and would effectively increase the range of the antenna of the cell base station, notably in distant areas. Modifying antenna steerability is part of cellular network management data.

L'objet de la présente invention est l'utilisation d'une antenne à faisceau dirigeable tel un groupement d'antennes (Phased Array) dans un appareil radio mobile (téléphone ou autre) de façon à pouvoir modifier l'orientation du faisceau principal de l'antenne mobile en direction d'une autre antenne éloignée. Un tel arrangement permettrait d'améliorer le gain de l'antenne et de réduire les effets de la propagation à trajets multiples. Dans le contexte de la téléphonie mobile, l'augmentation du gain de l'antenne mobile permettrait d'améliorer le rapport d'interférence co-canal (Co-channel Interference) et reviendrait à augmenter la portée de l'antenne de la station de base de la cellule, notamment en zone éloignée. La modification de la directionnalité de l'antenne peut s'inscrire dans le cadre des données de gestion d'un réseau cellulaire.
