A steerable trolley, typically a shopping trolley, comprises two or more pivotable wheels and the steering mechanism comprising communication means between a driving wheel and corresponding driven wheel, the communication means being operable such that pivotal movement of the said driving wheel about a substantially vertical axis acts to produce a pivotal movement of the said corresponding driven wheel, wherein when the driving wheel is a rear wheel the driven wheel is a front wheel and vice versa. Advantageously only one and preferably, the outer of the driving wheels acts to produce the pivotal movement of its corresponding driven wheel during cornering of the trolley. An override mechanism for user disengagement or disengagement when the trolley is stacked is also provided. An arcuate handle bar and side bars may also be provided. Ease of manoeuvrability is assisted by differential offsets in the drive and driven wheels.

Cette invention concerne un chariot dirigeable, typiquement un caddie de supermarché, qui comporte au moins deux roues montées sur pivot et dont le mécanisme de direction comprend un organe mettant en communication une roue motrice et la roue menée correspondante, ledit organe de communication pouvant fonctionner de façon à ce que le pivotement de la roue motrice autour d'un axe sensiblement vertical provoque le pivotement de la roue menée correspondante, la roue motrice étant une roue arrière si la roue menée est une roue avant et vice versa. Avantageusement, une seule des roues motrices, de préférence la roue extérieure, agit de façon à produire le pivotement de sa roue menée correspondante lors d'une prise de virage du chariot. L'invention concerne, en outre, un mécanisme prioritaire qui permet un dégagement par l'utilisateur ou un dégagement lorsque le chariot est rangé. Elle décrit également une barre arquée servant à diriger le chariot ainsi que des barres latérales. La facilité de manoeuvre est renforcée par l'existence d'un différentiel entre le déport des roues motrices et celui des roues menées.
