ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A steering and propulsion unit for a vessel of the type which may be used at the bow of a vessel to assist in docking of the vessel, and in which water is drawn in through an inlet and discharged under pressure past deflector means which provide direction thrust. The unit includes a compartment sealed from the remainder of the vessel and comprising an open ended, vertically extending cylindrical member supported within the compartment, a pump mounted within the cylindrical member to propel water from an inlet of the member to an outlet, and deflector means disposed adjacent the outlet to direct the discharged water in a substantially horizontal direction.
