An axle mounting and steering mechanism adapted for mounting to a plastic vehicle frame member, and having first and second plate members in abutment with a portion of the frame. A pivot pin which supports a pivotable axle is coupled between the first and second plate members. The first and second plate members transmit operating loads from the axle and pivot pin to the frame over a relatively large surface area of the frame. A steering rack is supported by the second plate member and a third plate member.
