A steering column assembly (10) for a vehicle wherein the steering column may be adjustable in a tilt direction, telescoping direction, or both. The steering column includes a first housing (12), a second housing (18) pivotally coupled to one end of the first housing (12), and a locking assembly (20) interconnecting the first (12) and second (18) housings. The locking assembly (20) includes clutch blades (28) having one end attached to the first housing (12) and an opposite end in sliding engagement with the second housing (18). A caliper member (44) is provided on the second housing (18) and extending through the clutch blades (28) to selectively fix the clutch blades (28) in place and thus fix the relative position of the first housing (12) in relation to the second housing (18).

L'invention concerne un ensemble colonne de direction (10) pour un véhicule où la colonne de direction est réglable dans un mouvement rotatif ou télescopique, ou les deux à la fois. L'ensemble colonne de direction comprend un premier boîtier (12), un second boîtier (18) accouplé de manière rotative à une extrémité du premier boîtier (12) et un ensemble de verrouillage (20) fixant le premier boîtier (12) au second (18). L'ensemble de verrouillage (20) comprend des lames d'embrayage (28) fixées au boîtier (12) par une extrémité. L'extrémité opposée est reliée au second boîtier (18) grâce à un accouplement coulissant.
