The invention relates to means for the releasable, positive axial fastening of a steering wheel (1) to a steering column (2) wherein the steering wheel (1) is mounted on the upper end of the steering column (2) and is held positively against rotation thereon. As a replacement for the conventional threaded fastening, a catch fastening is proposed, which in a first embodiment is characterized in that in the upper end of the steering column (2) at least two catches (5) are situated opposite one another, biased outwardly in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the steering column (2) and pivoting about axes (4) running off-center parallel to the said plane, and that the catches (5) have conically merging exterior surfaces (6) by means of which, when the steering wheel (1) is mounted on the steering column (2), can rotate inwardly into an open position from which they snap outwardly to a locking position under the influence of a tension spring (7) when the steering wheel (1) has reached its required axial position and the catches (5) can catch the upper margin of a central recess (3) in the steering wheel (1).
