ABSTRACT A metal seal (15) between a metal stem (13) and a housing (14) comprises an annular body (19) with axially projecting radially outer and inner sealing flanges (20 and 21). The flange (20) makes a static seal with the housing and the flange (21) is axially tapering and arranged to curve into contact with the stem, the contact length increasing with increasing working pressure and hence increasing deflection of the flange (21).
