An artificial venous valve which incorporates a stent having one or more of the elements comprising its frame deformed inwardly towards its center and a biocompatible fabric attached to the one or more elements is utilized to replace or supplement incompetent or damaged venous valves. The elements are deformed and the fabric attached in such a way as to form valve flaps, which when there is no pressure differential on opposite sides of the flaps, substantially occludes the lumen of the vessel into which the artificial valve has been deployed. When there is a pressure differential, albeit slight, due to the pumping of the heart, the flaps easily open and allow blood to flow therethrough while substantially preventing backflow.

La présente invention concerne une valvule veineuse artificielle comprenant : une endoprothèse, dont un ou plusieurs éléments, y compris son cadre, est déformé vers l'intérieur en direction du centre ; ainsi qu'un tissu biocompatible fixé à l'un des éléments, laquelle valvule est utilisée pour venir remplacer ou renforcer des valvules veineuses inaptes ou endommagées. Les éléments sont déformés et le tissu est fixé de manière que des clapets de valvule soient formés, lesquels, lorsqu'aucune différence de pression n'est constatée sur les côtés opposés des clapets, obstruent sensiblement la lumière du vaisseau dans lequel la valvule artificielle a été déployée. Lorsqu'une différence de pression est constatée, même faible, laquelle est causée par le pompage du coeur, les clapets s'ouvrent facilement, permettant ainsi au sang de couler à travers ces derniers, tout en prévenant sensiblement le refoulement.
