A stent (20) for use in a medical procedure that comprises a series of proximal apices (22a, 22b) disposed at a proximal end (22) of the stent and a series of distal apices (62a, 62b) disposed at a distal end (24) of the stent. A trigger wire (84) is arranged to be coupled to at least one of the proximal apices (22a, 22b) to restrain the proximal end of the stent (22) during delivery. In a first embodiment, a first proximal apex comprises a bore (31) for receiving the trigger wire (84), and a second proximal apex, disposed adjacent to the first proximal apex, comprises at least one barb (42). The trigger wire (84) therefore is only coupled to selected ones of the proximal apices. In another embodiment, a first proximal apex comprises a first bore (31) and a second, adjacent proximal apex comprises a second bore (41 ), such that a single trigger wire (84) may be disposed through the first and second bores to restrain the first and second proximal apices during delivery.
