An implantable stent prosthesis comprises a sidewall and at least one channel for containing a biologically active material. A method for making such stent prosthesis is also disclosed. In the method, at least one tube or mandrel is placed in contact with a covering material on a stent and surrounded by the covering material to form a channel. Alternatively, a channel can be formed by covering tube or mandrel with a channel material and exposing the covered tube or mandrel to an appropriate treatment. The channel can be attached to a sidewall of a stent or attached to a strut material to form a stent wire. A method of treating an afflicted area of a body lumen by implanting the stent prosthesis is also disclosed.
L'invention concerne une prothèse d'endoprothèse vasculaire implantable pourvue d'une paroi latérale et d'au moins un canal destiné à contenir une matière active biologiquement, ainsi qu'une méthode d'élaboration d'une telle endoprothèse vasculaire. Dans cette méthode, on place au moins un tube ou un mandrin en contact avec une matière de recouvrement sur une endoprothèse vasculaire et on entoure ladite matière pour former un canal. Selon un autre mode de réalisation, on peut constituer un canal en recouvrant le tube ou le mandrin avec une matière pour canal et en exposant le mandrin ou tube recouvert à un traitement approprié. Le canal peut être attaché à une paroi latérale d'une endoprothèse vasculaire ou à un matériau d'entretoise de manière à former un fil d'endoprothèse vasculaire. Cette invention concerne aussi une méthode de traitement d'une zone atteinte d'une lumière corporelle par implantation de cette endoprothèse vasculaire.
