ABSTRACT A stepping motor driving circuit, in which the motor has pairs of magnetically coupled windings, includes switching transistors associated with each winding, diodes in paral- lel with the switching transistors for recycling the currents induced during current chopping, if used, and phase switching, and a diode and a capacitor, in parallel with each other and series connected between the voltage source and each pair of magnetically coupled windings. As soon as a phase winding is de-energized, the driving circuit allows recovery of the energy stored in the wind- ing by charging the capacitor coupled to it. The energy is then returned from the capacitor to the other phase winding of the pair in case of phase switching, or depend- ing on the circuit arrangement, to the same phase winding in the case case of current chopping. The driving circuit speeds up phase switching and therefore increases the tor- que delivered by the motor at high frequencies.
