A process for the stereoselective microbial reduction of compound of formula (II) to compound of formula (I) comprising adding compound of formula (II) to a medium, medium and buffer, medium and solvent, or medium and a mixture of buffer and solvent containing a microorganism, preferably Rhodococcus fascians ATCC No.202210 or fungal isolate Geotrichum candidum ATCC No. 74487, incubating the resulting mixture, and isolating a hydroxy compound of formula (I), is described. The compound of formula (I) is a serum cholesterol lowering agent.
L'invention concerne une technique permettant la réduction microbienne stéréosélective d'un composé représenté par la formule (II) en un composé représenté par la formule (I). Cette technique consiste à ajouter un composé représenté par la formule (II) à un milieu, à un milieu et un tampon, à un milieu et un solvant, ou à un milieu et un mélange de tampon et de solvant contenant un micro-organisme, de préférence, Rhodococcus fascians ATCC No.202210, ou un isolat fongique Geotrichum candidum ATCC No. 74487; à faire incuber le mélange résultant; et à isoler un composé hydroxy représenté par la formule (I). Le composé représenté par la formule (I) est un agent d'abaissement du taux de cholestérol sérique.
