En l'occurrence, on prend un nucléophile appartenant au groupe de l'eau, des alcools, des acides carboxyliques et des thiols et on le fait réagir avec un mélange racémique ou diastéréomère à base d'un substrat cyclique en présence d'un catalyseur chiral non racémique de façon à réaliser une résolution cinétique du substrat cyclique.
