ABSTRACT A sterilizable bag for use in the production of mushroom spawn has at least a panel of microporous plastics sheet material, for example microporous poly- propylene or polyethylene, which is a good bacterial filter. In use the bag is filled with a particulate nutrient material, sterilized, inoculated with mycelium, and then stored under incubation conditions for growth of the mycelium through the nutrient material.
