It deals with a process of sterilization or decon- tamination of apparatus, characterised in that an aqueous solution containing at least 0.01% of a compound of the formuls Image in which R represents a C5-C14 n-alkyl radical in the form of the base or a salt thereof, is applied to the apparatus at a temperature in the range of 30 to 120°C at atmospheric pressure. The process is suitable in particular for the sterilization of milk processing circulation equip- ment.
