ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed herein is a stern drive unit comprising an engine output shaft having an axis, a lower unit adapted to be mounted on a boat and including a drive shaft having an axis, and a universal joint connecting the output shaft and the drive shaft and comprising a connecting member having an axis and including a first end comprising a first pair of spaced legs respectively including aligned first bores having respective coincident axes extending transversely of the axis of the connecting member, and a second end spaced axially from the first end and including a second pair of spaced legs respectively including aligned second bores having respective coincident axes extending transversely of the axis of the connecting member and of the axes of the first bores, a first yoke member on the output shaft and including a third pair of spaced legs respectively including aligned third bores having respective coinicident axes extending transversely of the axis of the output shaft, a second yoke member on the drive shaft and including a fourth pair of spaced legs respectively including aligned fourth bores having respective coincident axes extending transversely of the axis of the drive shaft, a first cross member including a first pair of aligned pins having an axis and rotatably received in the first bores, and a second pair of aligned pins extending at a right angle to the axis of the first pair of aligned pins and rotatably received in the third bores, and a second cross member including a third pair of aligned pins having an axis and rotatably received in the second bores, and a fourth pair of aligned pins extending at a right angle to the axis of the third pair of aligned pins and rotatably received in the fourth bores.
