ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The stimulation of erythropesis in humans and other warm-blooded animals is produced by administration of an effective amount of 3.alpha.-hydroxy- 5.beta.-estrane-17-one(19-noretiocholanolone). compositions containing this steroid are particularly advantageous in that they exhibit an unexpected low level of pyrogenicity as compared to etiocholanolone, a known pyrogen.
