A B S T R A C T There is disclosed compounds having the general formula: Image wherein X is selected from Br, Cl and OQ, Y is selected from Br, Cl, F and H, R1 is OQ, R2 is OQ and R3 is selected from H, .alpha.OQ, .alpha.CH3 and .beta.CH3, and Q, which may be the same or different, are selected from the group H, and acyl radicals, or OQ in the 16,17 or in the 17,21 positions may together form a cyclic ketal, cyclic acetal or cyclic alkyl orthoester, and pharmaceu- tically acceptable salts and esters of those compounds wherein at least one radical Q is a polycarboxylic or an inorganic acid radical. The steroids possess interesting anti-inflammatory activity.
