An apparatus and method for transmitting a signal having a first bandwidth through a telephone line having a second bandwidth, wherein the first bandwidth includes frequencies outside the second bandwidth is disclosed. The invention also provides a method and apparatus for demodulating the transmitted signal. The system also includes a mobile unit coupled to an electronic stethoscope (12A) that communicates with a base unit (22A) using a wireless communication link. In combination with the method and apparatus for transmitting signal through a conventional telephone line, the invention allows data representative of heart and lung sounds from an electronic stethoscope that is outside the passband of a conventional telephone line to be transmitted through the telephone system (34) for remote diagnosis and analysis.
L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé qui permettent de transmettre un signal ayant une première largeur de bande via une ligne téléphonique ayant une deuxième largeur de bande, la première largeur de bande comportant des fréquences situées hors de la deuxième largeur de bande. L'invention concerne également un procédé et un appareil pour démoduler le signal transmis. Le système comprend en outre une unité mobile couplée à un stéthoscope électronique qui communique avec une unité de base au moyen d'une liaison de communication sans fil. Cette invention, combinée au procédé et à l'appareil destinés à transmettre un signal via une ligne téléphonique classique, permet de transmettre via le système téléphonique des données représentatives des bruits cardiaques ou pulmonaires provenant d'un stéthoscope électronique et se trouvant en dehors de la bande passante d'une ligne téléphonique classique, à des fins de diagnostic et d'analyse à distance.
