The invention relates to a stimulation electrode and its use. The electrode surface of the stimulation electrode is at least partially covered with a coating of titanium nitride, the titanium nitride having on its side remote from the electrode surface a larger surface than the region of the electrode surface covered by the titanium nitride. According to the invention, the titanium nitride is covered with at least one oxidation protection layer on its surface remote from the electrode surface.
