A subscriber interface module (SIM 34) for a mobile station (8) used in a GSM mobile communications system, the SIM operating system being adapted to perform data coding format conversion for data items stored in the SIM and transmitted to the mobile station. This ensures that the SIM is able to receive, and present, data items in the required standard format at the interface between the mobile station and the SIM, whilst allowing the data items to be stored in a compressed format in the SIM memory (38), thereby increasing the perceived storage capacity of the SIM. The data can be abbreviated dialling number records.

L'invention concerne un module d'identité d'abonné (SIM), lequel est destiné à une station mobile utilisée dans un système de communication mobile du Groupe Mobile Spécial (GSM) et présente un système de fonctionnement conçu pour exécuter une conversion de format par codage des données d'articles de données conservés dans le SIM et émis vers la station mobile. Grâce à ce système, le SIM peut recevoir et présenter des articles de données dans le format standard requis au niveau de l'interface entre la station mobile et le SIM, tout en permettant le stockage d'articles de données sous format comprimé dans la mémoire du SIM, accroissant ainsi la capacité de stockage des données entrées.
