ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is disclosed for storing blood for a period of days ln a container made of a blood-compatible polymer comprising a sterilizable, chlorine-free plastic material. The method comprises providing to said blood in said container a sufficient concentration of a dispersed dialkyl- phthalate in which said alkyl groups each contain 4 to 12 carbon atoms, to cause a reduced plasma hemoglobulin content of blood stored in contact there- with for 21 days, when compared with blood stored in contact with the same blood-compatible material free of said antihemolytic agent.
