STRADDLE CARRIERS FOR CONTAINERS Abstract of the Disclosure A straddle carrier consisting of an inverted U-shaped frame having a pair of vertically extending legs that define an elongated container carrying bay with a spreader supported for vertical movement in the bay. First and second hoisting means are connected to opposite ends of the spreader and each includes a fluid ram and three flexible members entrained over a pulley on one element of the fluid ram. One end of each flexible member is connected to the frame and the intermediate flexible member is entrained over a pulley and connected to one corner of the spreader while the two outer flexible members are entrained over another pulley and connected to an adjacent corner of the frame.
