ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The stray voltage protection device comprises a first terminal to be connected to a conductive object which may be subjected to stray voltage, a second terminal to be connected to a ground conductor which is grounding an electric installation linked to an electric distribution network, and a detector for detecting a voltage amplitude between the first and second terminals, and generating a trigger signal only when the voltage amplitude is above a predetermined treshold value. A switching device is provided for short-circuiting the first and second terminals as long as the trigger signal is generated, whereby the conductive object is protected against the stray voltage. A method for preventing presence if stray voltage is also disclosed.
