An optical connector ferrule is disclosed having a streamlined surface for reduced dust accumulation. The ferrule has a longitudinal axis and comprises a cylindrical base and a distal tip both centered on the axis. The distal tip comprises a first end adjacent the base, a middle portion extending from the first end, and a second end adjacent the middle portion. The middle portion has a frusto-conical form defining a concave outer surface relative to the axis, having a decreasing diameter toward the tip. The second end has a convex face inclined with respect to the axis. A common bore extends along the longitudinal axis, sized to accommodate an optical fiber. An optical connector assembly is made by inserting an optical fiber into the ferrule bore and polishing the optical fiber edge protruding from the distal tip, to form a convex surface continuous with the second end convex face.
