A method for improving the tensile strength of wet collagen threads or collagen thread constructs for implantation to replace or repair tissue or organs wherein the strength of the threads is improved by plasticizing the threads with a plasticizing agent, imparting a tensile load to the collagen thread to strain the collagen thread; allowing the strain in the thread to decrease by stress-relaxation or by creep conditioning methods and, finally, removing the plasticizing agent. Prosthetic devices comprising collagen threads with improved strength characteristics are intended to repair load bearing tissues such as ligaments and tendons.

Procédé permettant d'améliorer la résistance à la traction de fils de collagène ou de structures de fils de collagène humides, destinés à être implantés pour remplacer ou réparer des tissus ou des organes, qui consiste à améliorer la résistance des fils par plastification desdits fils avec un agent plastifiant, à soumettre le fil de collagène à un effort de traction pour le placer en état de contrainte, à réduire la contrainte du fil par relaxation de la contrainte ou par des procédés de conditionnement par fluage et finalement à éliminer l'agent plastifiant. Des prothèses comportant des fils de collagène à caractéristiques de résistance améliorées sont destinées à la réparation de tissus supportant des charges, tels que ligaments et tendons.
