A method of strengthening green form parts made from metal powder requires the use of a cross-linkable polymer which, when cross-linking has been induced, retains its mechanical properties to a degree sufficient to prevent fracture or significant deformation of the green form part when subjected to heat sufficient to induce phase transformation and carbonization. The polymer is incorporated into a green form part (20) and cross-linking induced (30), giving the green part additional strength which enables it to endure the consolidation process (40) without failing. The required polymer can be part of the powder blend used to form the green form part, and induced to cross- link with heat (170) or radiation (180). Alternatively, the green form part can be dipped in a thermoset resin that cross-links when cured (100).
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de renforcer des comprimés crus fabriqués à partir d'une poudre métallique, à l'aide d'un polymère réticulable, lequel une fois réticulé conserve ses propriétés mécaniques à un degré suffisant pour empêcher la fracture ou la déformation significative du comprimé cru lorsque celui-ci est soumis à une chaleur suffisante pour déclencher une carbonisation ou une transition de phase. Le polymère est incorporé dans le comprimé cru (20) et la réticulation est déclenchée (30), conférant ainsi audit comprimé une force supplémentaire lui permettant de supporter le processus de consolidation (40) sans se déformer. Le polymère nécessaire peut faire partie du mélange de poudres utilisé pour former le comprimé cru, et il peut être soumis à la réticulation thermique (170) ou à la réticulation par rayonnements (180). Dans un mode de réalisation différent, le comprimé cru peut être plongé dans une résine thermodurcissable qui se réticule à la cuisson (100).
